Hack/Slash on Examiner

January 4th, 2010 - 0 Comment(s)

It has been quite a while since I’ve had the chance to write up something for the Examiner… Alright, you got me… I’m one lazy son of a buck.

Either way, I just finished reading through the Hack/Slash Omnibus vol 1.  Awesome horror comic!  You know how sometimes you think that you never saw a certain movie because you’d like the opportunity to watch it again for the first time?  Well, that’s how I’m feeling with a lot of horror comics.

I expect to start writing more on the subject of horror comics.  There is just so much great material out there that I would be remiss if I neglected it.

Go ahead and check it out on my Examiner page!

Nightmare Mansion: Examiner Article

dscn0784Do you guys realize how awesome has been to be able to visit a bunch of haunted attractions this month?  Well… trust me, it has been sweet!  Sam and I actually had the opportunity to visit the Nightmare Mansion earlier this week.  We had a chance to talk with Sean the owner, and we were both very impressed with how much thought, planning, and energy goes into creating a quality haunted attraction.

Anyway, I did a writeup on the Examiner.  If you would be so kind as to check it out, I would appreciate it very much!

Salty Zombies Weekend Kicks Off in SLC

October 24th, 2009 - 0 Comment(s)

headFor anybody who was there last night in downtown SLC last night for the kickoff of the Salty Zombies Weekend, you were treated to a perfect night for a zombie walk.  Not only was the weather perfect, but the atmosphere was perfect since dusk was creeping over the valley as well as the fact that downtown SLC was very busy with a local MLM convention going on at the Salt Palace along with many people who were starting to converge on downtown to start their evenings.

Unfortunately I didn’t have time to get dressed up for the walk, but I did have time to grab my camera to take some pics.  I did a small writeup on the Examiner and attached the pictures I was able to take.

This weekend, there are some great horror/zombie related happenings going on.  First of all, let’s not forget about DieMonsterDie’s show at The New Song Underground, but we have the Salty Zombies Weekend!

I had a chance to talk with Zombie Zed, the organizer of the Salty Zombies Weekend and did a writeup on the Examiner.  However, this weekend’s activities aren’t the only thing that he has organized, he has put together a social network for all horror-related events in Salt Lake City.  Make sure to check out the article and SaltyZombies.com!

Sam here and I had the chance to interview Joe Scheiber who wrote the most recent addition to the Star Wars Univers, Death Troopers.  It’s the first horror novel set in the Star Wars universe and Joe does a great job to not hold back on the gore and violence.

Joe has also recently published No Doors. No Windows which is about a struggling author who tries to finish his father’s manuscript only to find out that there is some family baggage he wished he never found out about.

You can check out the book reviews and the interview with Joe at the links below.  You will be able to hear the entire interview on our next episode of the podcast - Episode 43 Giallo films.

Nightmare on 13th on the Examiner

October 11th, 2009 - 0 Comment(s)

headlessWhat’s the best thing about Halloween?  Really, there are so many awesome things available to the horror fan that it is very difficult to choose just one.  However, here in Utah, we’re privileged to have some of the best haunted attractions in the nation.

I was able to chat with an owner of what could be the best haunted house in Utah earlier this week.  He gave me a tour of the facility and allowed me to take a trip through the attraction.  I’ve just got to say that it was excellent!

Anyhow, I did a write-up on the Examiner.  Please check it out! and check out Nightmare on 13th’s official website.

Wicked

Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West
Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West

I know what many of you are thinking:  “I didn’t know that Sam was cultured and that he attended plays”.  Well I don’t, so my reputation is safe as an uncultured midget sympathizer.  At any rate, my wife went with her mom and sisters to see Wicked in San Diego.  The big chatter before they went was how the book was nothing like the play because it had off-putting sexual themes and didn’t stick with the story of the play.  This got your humble narrator thinking that he should definitely check out the book.

I did and it lived up to the hype.  Weird sexual encounters between puppets, humans and animals, throw in some hermaphrodite talk, mountains that look like a “woman spreading her legs to welcome her lover” and you have a Cadaver Lab winner.  Not to mention that according to conversations with my wife, the play ends nothing like the book.  Check out my review at the Examiner HERE.

I realize that our good friend Rotten 138 has already reviewed this film on our site, however having just seen Trick ‘r Treat the other day, I felt like I had to put in my two cents.

My review is over on the Examiner.com… Check it out!
